Step 1: Understand Why You’re Here
You were selected for V4 or V5 verification by the U.S. Department of Education or you were unable to successfully verify your identity when you were filing out the FAFSA. This means you must confirm your identity before your financial aid can be processed.
If you cannot appear in person or visit a notary and mail the documents in then a virtual visit to confirm your identity is an option.
Step 2: Schedule Your Virtual Appointment
You’ll need to meet with a Financial Aid staff member using Zoom.
To schedule your virtual appointment, email the Office of Financial Aid at financialaid@fsu.edu. Please use “Virtual Meeting Request – Identity Verification” as the subject line.
Please schedule the appointment as soon as possible to avoid delays in your financial aid processing.
Step 3: Prepare Your ID
Before your meeting, make sure you have one of the following valid, unexpired, government-issued photo IDs ready:
- U.S. Passport
- State-issued driver’s license
- State-issued non-driver ID
- Other Federal or State issued photo ID except as noted below.
Note: College IDs and military IDs (due to prohibition from being photocopied) are not accepted for identity verification.
Step 4: Attend Your Remote Meeting
During your scheduled Zoom meeting you must:
- Prepare to have your camera on for video session
- Show your valid, non-expired, government issued photo ID clearly on camera
The Financial Aid staff member will:
- Confirm your identity
- Capture a screenshot of your ID
This step satisfies the federal requirement for visual identity verification.
IMPORTANT Note!
After your documents are uploaded and reviewed, please note that you will be contacted if additional information is needed. If the requested information is not provided, we will be unable to complete the verification process to determine your financial aid eligibility.
