The FAFSA form is available on October 1 for the next school year. When you log in to renew, be sure to select "FAFSA RENEWAL". The form will be prefilled with information from the previous year. If any information has changed, it will need to be updated.
The FAFSA form asks for financial information, including information from tax forms and balances of savings and checking accounts.
The FAFSA form asks for marital status “as of today” (the day the form is completed). If a student or parent is married now, but wasn’t in the year the taxes were filed, the spouses income will need to be added.
Similarly, if the student or parent filed taxes as married, but is no longer married to that individual, the spouse’s income will need to be removed.
Before your FAFSA form can be processed, you’ll need to sign and submit the application.
