Fill Out FAFSA

Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step of the financial aid process. You may submit the FAFSA beginning October 1st each year and use your prior year tax information. You must fill out the FAFSA using FSU's school code (001489) in order to receive any federal financial aid at FSU. If you are a high school student preparing to start your first semester, make sure to also apply for the Bright Futures scholarship by August 31st using FSU's school code (371).

Start Planning For School

FSU provides a sample budget worksheet and an annual estimated cost of attendance to help you determine your likely expenses and prepare for the upcoming school year.

Complete All Requirements

To make sure your aid is disbursed, complete the following:

View Award Amount on myFSU

During the spring following the submission of your FAFSA, your award amount for the upcoming aid year will be posted on your myFSU financial aid page. Include these amounts in your planned budget to see if you will be able to pay for your expected expenses or if you will need to find additional aid to cover your costs. If you have been offered loans or work study, you must accept or decline your award.

Recieve Financial Aid Disbursement

Check the anticipated disbursement dates to see when your financial aid will be disbursed. When your aid is disbursed, the money goes first towards paying any charges on your account. If there are charges still left on your account, you will need to pay those out of pocket. If you have aid left over after paying the charges on your account, that money will be deposited to the bank account you have listed under myFSU.
