The FAFSA FSU school code is: 001489.

Don't wait until the last minute!

Financial aid can sometimes require paperwork, especially if your FAFSA is picked for verification. This is a process in which the Office of Financial Aid requests documentation to verify what was submitted on your FAFSA application.

All document requests will be listed on your Student Central To-Do List, and we send out e-mail reminders as well. As a result, it's important to sign onto your Student Central under your myFSU Links to keep up with your financial aid offers and also your To-Do List so you stay current on your aid.

There are multiple types of financial aid you can receive at Florida State University as a student, from scholarships and grants, to federal Stafford loans and Work Study. For federal and institutional aid (loans, grants, and Work Study), the most important step is to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the only application required to apply for all federal and institutional sources of aid outside of scholarships for Florida State University, so make sure to complete the free application every October 1st.

Make sure to apply early, as many of the our awards are limited and time sensitive! The FAFSA application can be completed using estimated tax information, so you do not have to wait for your taxes to be complete in order to complete your application. While there are multiple factors that can affect eligibility for aid (view our Resources page to see more), standard Federal Aid eligibility requirements are:

  1. You must be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen (see Federal Student Aid on information on who qualifies as an eligible non-citizen).
  2. You must have a valid social security number.
  3. You must be admitted into a degree-seeking program (aid cannot be awarded or disbursed until you are in a degree-seeking program).
  4. If you are a male of at least 18 years of age, you must be registered with Selective Service.
  5. To retain eligibility, you must maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  6. You must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) in a semester.
